July 22nd: The Day the First Briton Won Tour de France

Wiggins Wins!
The Tour de France of 2012 saw 32 year old Bradley Wiggins take first place with his Sky team-mate Mark Cavendish. Wiggins began cycling aged 12 years old, and his dedication and  hard-work certainly earned him the glory on July 22nd as he won the 99th Tour de France by 3 minutes 21 seconds.
His total race time for the 3,200 kilometre track was 87 hours, 34 minutes and 47 seconds, which is a whole lot of pedaling if you ask me! Phew, makes me tired just typing those numbers in. In second place was another Brit, Christopher Froome, another member of Team Sky, ensuring Britain dominated the winners podium. The day signified historic events in cycling and the Tour de France competition, finally putting Britain on the map!
