July 2nd: The Day of the Unidentified Flying Object

Visit: worldufoday.com
July 2nd is officially World UFO Day, when humans are encouraged to open their minds to the prospect of other forms of life in the universe, and open their eyes to the chance of sighting a UFO. For me, UFOs have always seemed something that only exist in the movies, and would never actually happen in real life. From E.T. to Alien, SpiceWorld The Movie to The Day the Earth Stood Still, extra-terrestial activity has been a subject of controversy and fascination among the human race. Now, I don't know what's more weird - the thought that aliens may be watching the Earth from above, or the fact that I just openly admitted to watching the Spice Girls movie...
World UFO Day was originally on both June 24th and July 2nd. These two dates signify UFO sightings: a pilot, Kenneth Arnold spotted "flying saucers" over Mount Rainier on June 24th; and a rancher in northwest Roswell New Mexico, Mac Brazel, discovered a UFO in the desert on July 2nd 1947. The organizers of World UFO Day decided July 2nd was the more significant, and held the celebration day first in 2001.
The point of today is to widen awareness and the chances of sighting extra-terrestial life by encouraging people to group together and learn about UFO history. With every sighting the government has rejected the authenticity of reports, raising high speculation and belief that they are in fact concealing a great deal of alien-related information from the general public. Therefore, July 2nd is also an attempt to provoke the governments to admit to the existence of UFOs. Hmmm, reminds me of a certain Will Smith movie...Men In Black, anyone?! Hopefully our governments don't erase our memories.
Where do you stand on this topic? Does E.T. really phone home? Our world has become captivated by the idea of alien life (remember those rubbery alien toys you had to feed?!), but how would we actually react if it was all true? If the suspicions about the government are true, is it right for them to lie to us, or are they actually protecting us?
